On the edge of Reality Looking Out Upon The Sea Of Dreams
What truths are only seen and understood by the heart? A beautiful statement from the Declaration of Independence is “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” These words changed the world. Lacking a justification in science and natural law, the founding fathers of America turned to a spiritual justification in their chosen construct to form a more perfect union and government. They appealed to divine heritage as the justification that all souls had immeasurable value, were deserving of rights, liberty, and the ability to pursue happiness. The law of natural selection secures no such rights and value on the soul. Despite the very flawed implementation of this spiritual concept there is no question it has advanced humanity forward and made the world a better place. Many in the past and today consider all such spiritual appeals or dreams of the heart to be foolishness. When is the law of nature wrong and the law of the heart correct? How does the shores of reality and the great sea of dreams meet and become reconciled? These are mysteries that we will ponder all our lives. If that ethereal sea of dreams is filled with the love and compassion of the pure in heart, I trust it’s compass heading will guide us through the night.
